Findhelp’s Truth & Reconciliation and Equity:

Statements and Actions

Truth & Reconciliation Statement:
Findhelp is a settler founded and funded organization that operates on the traditional and Treaty land of many Indigenous nations; we operate and support those from across Turtle Island and we exist, participate and operate within a settler system that continues to cause harm to Indigenous people. We recognize that, due to the impacts of colonization and discrimination, Indigenous peoples in areas of Findhelp’s work are disproportionately impacted by gender based violence, poverty, homelessness, and under-resourcing, and also reflect that as an agency we are part of the system creating these inequities. We also recognize that despite this history and ongoing oppression, Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island have flourished and are thriving; we have much to learn from Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and ways of being.

Truth & Reconciliation Action:
Findhelp has been reviewing internal policies, processes, practices and procedures with a lens towards Truth & Reconciliation. Informed by and with the guidance of various Truth & Reconciliation Indigenous advisors, we have developed a Truth & Reconciliation Framework and are on the journey of moving the framework into action. We recognize that we are all Treaty people and commit to incorporate learnings from Call to Action 57 and 92 from the Truth and Reconciliation Report that asks us to educate our staff on ‘intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights and anti-racism’.

Equity Statement:
Findhelp recognizes that systemic discrimination, oppression and racism exist. As such, we acknowledge that certain groups of people face disproportionate barriers to economic, employment and health opportunities. At the systems level, we are committed to improving accessibility to human and social services through ongoing and new initiatives, partnerships and approaches.

At the agency level, Findhelp believes in a workplace culture of inclusion that is welcoming, respectful, safe and empowering for all staff. It is important to our ongoing development and commitment to social justice to promote the inclusion of equity-deserving groups that have been, and continue to be, underrepresented and marginalized in the workforce, leadership roles, and in some specific occupations. Equity groups include Indigenous persons, Black and other racialized people, women, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, persons with disabilities and those who experience other forms of systemic oppression

Equity Action:
Findhelp has been reviewing internal policies, processes, practices and procedures with a lens of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. Informed by and with the guidance of various Equity advisors, we have developed an Equity Framework and are on the journey of moving the framework into action.

By making Truth & Reconciliation and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility a strategic priority, we aim to better reflect and support the communities we serve. We will continue to act on our commitments and continue to update this statement as we evolve.

Our Funders

We are deeply grateful to all of Findhelp’s funders for their many years of support, assistance and guidance. They have consistently understood and valued the expertise of Findhelp and its partners, and shared the goals of providing cost-effective and reliable service to the community. We could not deliver our broad range of services without them.
